Mariah Carey insults ‘fake’ Kim Kardashian

Mariah Carey may have taken a pot shot at Kim Kardashian, calling the reality star’s marriage to Kris Humphries “fake.”

“I’m a real person, I’m not going to put on a fake face for Hollywood,” Carey said, when asked about her husband Nick Cannon at a press conference at the Four Seasons. The singer has lost 70 pounds since giving birth to twins Monroe and Moroccan, and the press conference was held to announce she had been made a brand ambassador for Jenny Craig.

“There’s no teams; me and Nick are the same team always,” Carey continued. “Sometimes we make each other mad. That’s why we aren’t divorced after four months.”

Carey was, presumably, referring to Kardashian filing for divorce after just 72 days. When the crowd reacted to the statement, Carey calmed the swell, adding, “I’m sorry, I’m just saying.”

Carey may be happily married to Cannon since 2008, but she also had an experience with a marriage entered for the wrong reasons. In 1993, she tied the knot with Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola.

“You know, I had a situation in the past where I was controlled, and I was really young,” she told the event host, Gayle King. “It affected the way I trusted people,”

She has previously said of her marriage to Mottola, “I was treated almost like a prisoner. Everybody around me was deathly afraid of him. I became so scared. I was like an obsession and a possession.”

She ended the marriage after five years.

Carey sought to clarify her statement after the press conference, claiming it wasn’t pointed at Kardashian. “First of all, I don’t read the tabloids unless it’s about me,” she told “Extra.” “But I do know that marriages come and go really quickly in Hollywood. A lot of people have high-profile moments, and then they get a divorce, and I’m sure it’s very painful for them. My thing is: I don’t want that. I got married to stay married.”
