J.Lo honored at GLAAD Media Awards

Jennifer Lopez and Naomi Campbell stole the show at the GLAAD Media Awards in Beverly Hills.

Pop star and “American Idol” judge Lopez was honored Saturday with the Vanguard Award, which applauds efforts to increase understanding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender community. Lopez is executive producer of the ABC Family series “The Fosters,” about a lesbian couple raising their children, which also won the award for Outstanding Drama Series.

One guest at the Beverly Hilton told us that during the fund-raising portion of the night, uber-agent Kevin Huvane said, “I’m willing to give $25,000 if Jennifer matches,” then she took the microphone and agreed. Another highlight was when supermodel Campbell sashayed onto the stage, with her hair in a natural Afro, to introduce Ellen Page. Campbell paid tribute to transgender model Carmen Carrera, who got a standing ovation.

Other winners included “Orange Is the New Black” star Laverne Cox and Norman Lear, the producer of sitcoms including “All in the Family” and “Maude.” Guests included Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o — rocking a flattop hairdo that paid tribute to Grace Jones — Chaz Bono, Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart.
