Jason Trawick popped the question to Britney Spears last night on his 40th birthday.
While Spears has not made an announcement per se, she hinted about the big news via Twitter this morning.
“OMG. Last night Jason surprised me with the one gift I’ve been waiting for,” she wrote. “Can’t wait to show you! SO SO SO excited!!!! Xxo.”
Trawick told Access Hollywood that he asked Spears to marry him.
Friends say that Trawick slipped a ring with a 3-carat diamond on Spear’s finger.
“It’s very traditional. He picked out something he knew she would love,” a source told Us Weekly. “This is something they’ve both wanted for a long time … They’re both extremely happy and can’t wait to become man and wife.”
Sources shared with TMZ that Trawick, once the pop star’s agent, had long planned to propose as soon as Spears’ Femme Fatale tour came to an end. On the final night of the tour last weekend, Trawick joined Spears onstage for the song “I Wanna Go.” The muscular, long-haired former-manager cradled her younger son, Jayden James, tenderly in his arms. Before proposing, he reportedly asked Spears’ father for her hand in marriage.
In a strange twist, Spears will have to go to court to get permission to wed, reports TMZ. In 2008, her legal and financial affairs were set up under a court conservatorship handled by her father, James Spears, following the pop star’s infamous head-shaving incident and public meltdown in the wake of her split from husband Kevin Federline. A judge will have to approve the new union, and reports say Trawick will be signing a prenuptial agreement.
Trawick and Spears first met in 2006, when Trawick was an agent at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment and she was married to Federline. In 2009, Trawick and Spears began dating, but they did not reveal they were a couple until May of 2010, when they ended their professional relationship. Trawick has been snapped at Spears’ side ever since, along with her two sons — Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5.
“We’re really normal,” Spears told Ryan Seacrest last year about her relationship with Trawick. “We just like to watch movies. We work out a lot. We love to work out. We do stuff together like that. We take walks.”
While Trawick gave Spears a ring for his 40th birthday, Spears gifted him with a $45,000 motorcycle that he fell in love with while the couple filmed her music video for “Criminal.”
This will be the third marriage for Spears. Prior to Federline, Spears walked down the aisle with childhood friend Jason Alexander on a lark during a night of wild partying in Las Vegas. Three days later, the marriage was annulled.
