Jason Kidd opens up on DWI arrest

Jason Kidd insists his DWI arrest over the summer didn’t throw his focus off the game. “My job and my personal stuff are two separate things,” the 39-year-old Knick told us at the team’s season tip-off event at the Beacon Theatre. “My job is different as I’ve gotten older, and my job is to pass the information I have to these younger guys and help them to be successful.” (Information that perhaps includes “don’t drink and drive.”) Kidd and the entire team, along with the Knicks City Dancers, gathered at the event kicking off the 2012-2013 season, but the absence of Jeremy Lin, who was traded in the off-season, was felt by some. “He was a good dude,” Knicks center Tyson Chandler told us. “He was great for the city and great for our team because he had great energy.” As for that other team across the East River, most players told us there’s no rivalry with the Brooklyn Nets — yet. Said Chandler: “I don’t think much into it. No disrespect there. We have a lot we’re trying to accomplish, and it’s not a matchup that’s local. We want to chase a ring down.”
