Celebs flock to VF’s fest fete

As usual, Vanity Fair gave its usual Tribeca Film Festival party with the usual faces you usually see everywhere but on “wanted” posters.

Christine Baranski on one side. Mira Sorvino on another. Graydon Carter in between. Tory Burch split early. Salman Rushdie, and there’s absolutely no place he’s not. Ron Perelman kissed everyone, including two waiters.

The party was in chilly outdoors. Zac Posen, schlepping a model within his floor-length gown, told whomever: “It’s stretchable gold satin with baroque embroidery.” Fine. If she got pleurisy, whatthehell at least she’d look great.

Vera Wang wore some T-shirt thing with nonmatching pants. An outfit she wouldn’t sell anyone, even if they paid retail.

Sandra Bernhard: “My ‘The King of Comedy’ is the last movie Tribeca’s showing.” She’ll attend? “No. I’m in Pittsburgh.”

MTV co-founder Tom Freston about the venue, Centre Street’s Supreme Courthouse terrace: “People come here to get divorced. Tonight I see repeat offenders.”

Whoopi: “My documentary ‘The Story of Moms Mabley’ is out Saturday. Did it all myself. Produced, directed, financed. I hadn’t planned to pay for it, but once you’re in it, you can’t abandon it. One old photo cost 40 grand. I nearly had a heart attack taking $70,000 from my piggybank.” Who’s distributing it? “No idea.”

Ray Kelly: “We have people in Boston. We’re being observant.”

Charlie Rose, thrilled to see me, said: “I have nothing to say.”

Alan Patricof, so rich he gives to Fort Knox and is always hosting parties for the Clintons: “My son produced Ryan Gosling’s film ‘The Place Beyond the Pines,’ which opened in 1,400 theaters.” I didn’t care. I wasn’t invited to Clinton’s last party.

Christopher Walken’s casting agent wife, Georgianne: “Michael Pitt, Ray Romano, Andy Garcia’s new film ‘Rob the Mob’ starts shooting soon in New York.” And what’s her husband doing? “Nothing,” she said.

Between Wendi Murdoch and Gayle King, restaurateur Drew Nieporent offered: “My Daily Burger in Madison Square Garden is called New York’s best hamburger.” I thanked him for sharing.

Australian director Baz Luhrmann: “I just finished ‘The Great Gatsby.’ DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, great actors. My mission was to reveal the book. The film’s out May 10, opening here first and then Cannes. Premiere’s May 1, Alice Tully Hall. May 2, our big lunch. It’s special 3-D effects — the cameras don’t move — inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s cinematic knowledge in ‘Dial M for Murder’ with Grace Kelly.”

De Niro. Nobody cuddlier or more fuzzy exists. Agent Josh Lieberman: “Bob’s new movie ‘Last Vegas’ with Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline, Michael Douglas is CBS Film’s highest-rated film ever.” Great. P.R. Stan Rosenfield: “Tested in LA. Went through the roof.” Great. Josh: “It’s ‘The Hangover’ for the plus-50 group.” Great. Stan: “It’s out in the fall.” Great. Josh: “Bob’s ‘Malavita,’ with a new title, co-starring Tommy Lee Jones is also coming out.” Great.

Robert De Niro: “Don’t talk to her. She writes what she wants.”

It was 1985. Shaun Considine’s Streisand bio. Pages 294 and 295 deal with her agent Sue Mengers, now being immortalized in Bette Midler’s one-woman show “I’ll Eat You Last,” which opens Wednesday. In it, Sue, after 10 years, parts with client Barbra. Considine’s book listed various theories:

A: Sue’s agency muscle wasn’t behind Barbra’s “Yentl” film.

B: The singer’s then producer/manager/roommate Jon Peters felt no agent’s needed.

C: Streisand never paid commission for “All Night Long,” written and directed by Mengers’ husband, Jean-Claude Tramont.

We don’t know if Streisand paid the commission or not.

We’ve heard Streisand fired Sue, but Considine wrote Sue cut the umbilical cord and “jeopardized the most important business relationship of her life — in order to support her husband’s movie.”

He now says: “To be determined is how much Streisand remains in the Mengers play. We already know it’s being frequently revised.”

GOLDIE Hawn, who was in “The First Wives Club” with Bette Midler, attended the Bette Midler play . . . Barbara Corcoran says all ABC-TV’s “Shark Tank” panelists have hidden earpieces and get directed what to say or do . . . Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
