Cory Monteith memorial set for this week: report

Cory Monteith’s close friends have reportedly put together a memorial service for the late “Glee” actor set for Friday night.

“It’s at his house,” Monteith’s LA neighbor told In Touch. “The invite was informal – just a Facebook message telling us to come to the house at night.”

“Everyone is going to tell funny stories and bring photos,” said the source, who said that many of Monteith’s closest confidantes will attend.

The memorial service will take place one week after the Monteith, 31, was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver after overdosing on a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.

According to TMZ, Lea Michele – Monteith’s girlfriend of a year – has reportedly taken the reins and is planning the memorial and other matters concerning his untimely passing.

Sources explain that Michele is doing all the planning and is letting Monteith’s mother grieve during this difficult time.

The site reports that the actress “fiercely protected” Monteith and did everything she could to keep him from relapsing. The insider explained that she took the lead in urging the actor to go back to rehab in the spring.

However, whenever Monteith went back to his native Canada, Michele lost her grip.
