Catherine Zeta-Jones opened up about having bipolar disorder and dealing with her husband’s cancer scare in 2010.
Zeta-Jones said that her 68-year-old husband’s cancer was a complete shock while speaking to the Sunday Telegraph’s Stella magazine.
“When Michael was diagnosed with cancer I really thought, ‘You are going to have to wipe me off the floor,'” the Oscar-winning actress said.
The 43-year-old Welsh beauty also revealed that she struggled through her own illness as her husband battled his diagnosis.
“When you get sideswiped like that [by Douglas’ cancer] it’s an obvious trigger for your balance to be a little bit off, not sleeping, worry, stress,” she explained to the magazine. “It’s a classic trigger.”
Zeta-Jones also marveled at Douglas’ resilience, “I look back and I can’t believe the strength he had.”
The “Red 2” star also said she created a walk-in closet that she can hide in when she’s having a bad day, comparing it to the time machine from “Doctor Who.”
“We spend a hell of a lot of time together, so we are careful to maintain our space,” she said. “We recently had an extension built, to house a closet. It’s like the Tardis – I go in there and never come out.”
As Page Six reported, Zeta-Jones wouldn’t comment about her husband connecting his throat cancer to HPV.
When she was asked at Tuesday night’s Cinema Society screening of her movie “Red 2,” “Have you been mortified that your husband, in some ways, has become the poster boy for the dangers of oral sex?” the classy actress smiled, and said, “Next question.”
