Robin Roberts preps for bone marrow transplant

ABC “GMA” co-host Robin Roberts is gearing up for her bone marrow transplant Thursday morning.

“So today is my last day of chemo,” Roberts wrote on her GMA blog this morning. “Wednesday is called a day of rest, yay, right! The transplant is scheduled for Thursday morning.”

Roberts earlier this year was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow. She’s been vocal about the disease and her treatment on air, but signed off temporarily from the morning program on Aug. 30 to prep for the transplant.

Roberts endured chemotherapy this summer, and will have a bone marrow transplant this week thanks to her sister, Sally-Ann, whose marrow was a perfect match.

The GMA co-host admits how chemo has taken a toll on her, writing on her blog: “The start of last week went well but the daily chemo/treatment caught up to me by the weekend. My body is so weak but not my mind.”

Robert added that she had a party at her apartment last weekend with her coworkers to “lift my spirits” and posted a photo of herself smiling while sitting with her guests.
