Michael Strahan is close to joining the cast of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” sources confirmed to Page Six last night.
The Giants hall-of-fame defensive end is expected to appear on the show a few days a week, before heading to co-host his 9 a.m. show with Kelly Ripa, “Live With Kelly and Michael.”
We’re told Strahan, who has proved wildly popular with both daytime TV viewers and sports fans, has been in talks with “GMA” executives for months, and his deal, expected to be announced this week, is not a result of all the ugly contract drama with Josh Elliott, which ended on Sunday when Elliott abruptly joined NBC Sports (with designs on Matt Lauer’s “Today” job).
Elliott’s “GMA” news anchor replacement is Amy Robach.
On Wednesday, Strahan confirmed the news on “Live” with co-host Ripa at his side.
