Green Day cancels tour dates due to Billie Joe Armstrong’s rehab stint

Billie Joe Armstrong’s rehab stint has derailed the remainder of Green Day’s 2012 appearances and 21 dates in January and February.

The trio’s bass player Mike Dirnt said in a statement Armstrong’s health would not allow him to perform.

“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern,” Dirnt said. “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well.”

Green Day also announced they are moving up the release date for their third album “¡Tre!” that was slated to hit shelves in mid-January, but will now come out on Dec. 11. The first album “¡Uno!” was released on Sept. 25 and the second, “¡Dos!”, will be available on Nov. 13.

“We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned,” the drummer, Tré Cool, said in the statement.

Amstrong entered rehab for substance abuse in late September. During a performance at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, he went on a now-viral tirade where he smashed his guitar and cursed at sponsors.
