Ronald Lauder’s Wainscott home washed away

Amid widespread damage from Hurricane Sandy, a Hamptons home of the daughter of billionaire philanthropist Ronald Lauder was destroyed, sources say. The beachfront cottage in Wainscott, owned by Ronald’s daughter Jane, was besieged by waves that washed over an entire dune and a wall of sandbags. Two years ago, Lauder was fighting to save the same home during a lesser storm, for which they built a wall of sandbags, because beach erosion had left the property just on the edge of the Atlantic. But this time around, Sandy proved too strong and swept the home across the beach into Wainscott Pond, reports said. A rep for Lauder had no comment.
