Midler’s $1.8M Bette on green

Bette Midler didn’t let Sandy put a damper on her 15th annual Hulaween bash at the Waldorf-Astoria Wednesday. The event raised $1.8 million for the New York Restoration Project, which creates green spaces and will also take on projects related to hurricane restoration. “When I said yes to the event I had no idea how stressful it would be,” the singer/actress, dressed as Coco Chanel, told us. “We’ve just been pulling threads here and there, just calling in favors and everything.” Special guest Al Gore and master of ceremonies Judy Gold weren’t able to make it, but plenty of celebs stopped by in costumes fitting with the French theme. Michael Kors was a Frenchman complete with cigarette and baguette, and Ann Dexter-Jones came as a Picasso. Blondie closed the event dressed as the decidedly non-Gallic Village People. “I don’t have power either,” Debbie Harry announced. “That’s why I am up here,” she said before launching into her classic hit “The Tide Is High.”
