Russell Simmons has been tweeting up a holiday storm about meditation, letting go of neediness and greed for material things — but the Def Jam guru still threw a lavish pre-New Year’s party in St. Barts at the swanky and astronomically expensive Hotel Eden Roc.
Guests at Simmons’ soiree included Hollywood director Brett Ratner (with a leggy blonde), Sean “Diddy” Combs, art dealer Vito Schnabel, NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon, and uber-agent Michael Ovitz and girlfriend Tamara Mellon, who, a source said, “temporarily got held up at the door trying to bring their brood of kids in.”
We’re told Friday’s party, awash with champagne, went until 3 a.m., with guests also including Rachel Zoe, society party boys Harry and Peter Brant and a host of leggy-model beauties.
The night of the bash, Simmons sermonized on Twitter, “ ‘Neediness’ is the cause of suffering therefore I recommend we practice needing nothing #SuperRich” and “It’s very simple: When you’re working your hardest, the world opens up to you.”
But Page Six’s favorite tweet from Uncle Rush the night of the bash was, “I also tweet to remind myself of the truth. We must all remember to remember. Keep one foot in prayer and one in the street.” (Maybe he should have said “one foot in the Caribbean sea.”)
And the following morning — perhaps to get himself out of bed after all the late-night revelry — Simmons tweeted, “Every day set the simple goal of trying to be more awake and less distracted.“
Simmons has been staying on the island with his model girlfriend, Hana Nitsche, and the pair have been working through a veritable Kama Sutra of yoga poses on the beach, even though his ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons is also there with their children.
Other celebs on the island include Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts with their kids, Jon Bon Jovi, and newly crowned “Sexiest Man Alive” Channing Tatum and his pregnant wife, Jenna Dewan.
