The late Marvin Hamlisch had a thing for thin crust. At a Paley Center for Media event “What I Did for Love,” originally planned by Hamlisch himself days before his death in August, Tom Brokaw told guests, “I always thought of Marvin as my homeboy . . . He’d call and say, ‘I’ve got a new place. I’ll be right over.’ And he’d share with me the latest hot pizza place.” Seconding that the famed composer was a real New York foodie, singer Melissa Manchester shared that the composer once gave her mother $500 because he liked her chicken. Director Steven Soderbergh described working with Hamlisch as “like watching the best figure skater in the world do flawless triple axels every eight minutes, for eight hours a day.”
