‘Buckwild’ star’s family: Shain died peacefully in his sleep

The Gandee family has spoken up about the untimely passing of “Buckwild” star Shain Gandee, who was found dead in a car with his uncle and a friend in West Virginia on Monday.

“I just wanted to let everyone know that the family feels that Shain died peacefully in his sleep without pain or suffering. That it probably was carbon monoxide,” the 21-year-old’s cousin Ashely Gandee Lewis wrote on the Gandee General Store Facebook page.

She added that funeral arrangements are being made. “Nothing is confirmed but they are thinking Saturday. So private or public hasnt been decided I will try to keep everyone updated :(“

The family is asking for donations to help pay for funeral expenses and bills.

Shain’s 1984 Ford Bronco was found submerged in mud up to the window. Autopsies confirmed that they died of carbon monoxide poisoning, AP reported today.

In the wake of Monday’s tragedy, MTV has temporarily suspended filming of the show’s second season. Charleston city mayor Danny Jones pushed further, and said he hopes the show will be cancelled.

“Of the few cast members on the show, already two have had legal issues, and now one has died. The show only enhances the negative stereotype the Kanawha Valley already has,” Jones said to TMZ. “I hope the show’s life is short.”

Cast member Salwa Amin was arrested in connection to a drug raid last month and Michael Burford was arrested in suspicion of a DUI in February.
