Confirmed: Nicola Formichetti gets Diesel-powered

Nicola Formichetti, the stylist behind Lady Gaga, has cut ties with Paris fashion house Mugler after two years as creative director. But we hear Formichetti won’t be unemployed for long — sources say he’s about to be named artistic director at Diesel. Formichetti, who recently styled pregnant Kim Kardashian for Elle, was spotted at Paris fashion week palling around with Diesel founder Renzo Rosso at the Edun party. At Mugler, Formichetti put a modern edge on the brand, particularly when he used Gaga in the women’s runway show two years ago. No replacement has been named for Formichetti, but the company explained in a statement it would “soon announce a strategic plan for Mugler.” This was first reported in the New York Post column Threads in Alexa.

UPDATE: Formichetti has since spoken out about his new role as artistic director at Diesel, confirming the original report. He told V magazine, “Basically [Diesel founder Renzo Rosso] approached me and said, ‘You remind me of myself when I was younger. I want to hand Diesel to you and I want you to make Diesel relevant for modern-day people.’ Coming from him it was like, ‘Wow!’”
