Although it got personal between Christine Quinn and Chirlane McCray, the wife of her opponent Bill de Blasio, the two are on the same team trying to take down Eliot Spitzer and support Scott Stringer for city comptroller. Quinn and McCray have both signed a letter in support of Stringer to be released today ahead of a “Women for Stringer” rally. “As women voters in New York City, we believe the race for comptroller offers a clear choice in Scott Stringer — a man of integrity who has a 20-year record of fighting for issues critical to women and treating all people with respect and dignity,” the letter says. It also details Stringer’s efforts to protect women and families, including passing New York’s first anti-stalking legislation. About 100 female supporters signed the letter, including Lena Dunham, Scarlett Johansson, Kathy Najimy, Bernadette Peters and Sigourney Weaver. Lisa Linden, Spitzer’s rep, responded to the letter, saying (without irony), “No one’s record on women’s issues is stronger than Eliot’s.”
