Well, this probably constitutes Mel Gibson’s shortest “Hangover” ever as it was just announced that his much-discussed cameo as a tattoo artist in the 2011 sequel has been canceled.
In a statement, made in conjunction with Warner Bros & Legendary Pictures, director Todd Phillips said, “I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”
Many are looking to comments made earlier this week by “The Hangover’s” breakout star Zach Galifianakis as one of the anonymous dissenters Todd referred to. During a podcast interview with Comedy Death-Ray about the difference between being a producer and an actor for hire earlier this week, Zach said, “[in] a movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway.”
Well, sounds like Zach’s pleas were heard.
