Every year, before hundreds of naked golden guys are manhandled by some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, the Independent Spirit Awards show the big boys how it’s done. For 25 years Film Independent has been gathering the coolest stars, also known as indie actors, in a Santa Monica parking lot, to celebrate the best in independent cinema.
This year comedian Eddie Izzard hosts the ceremony, following in the funny footsteps of Steve Coogan, Rainn Wilson, Sarah Silverman, Samuel L. Jackson and John Waters. Unlike the Oscars, the Independent Spirit Awards feature genuinely brilliant banter and a host that lives up to his promise not to pull any punches. So in honor of tonight’s ceremony, let’s look at what Eddie’s predecessors brought to the table before we find out if he plants his own flag!
