There’s a lot of good to be found in The CW’s “Melrose Place” reboot — Katie Cassidy is a dream, Michael Rady is dreamy and the return of Heather Locklear is you know what come true. But there is one major problem with the show: Ashlee Simpson’s acting is a nightmare.

You know the expression, “wears her heart on her sleeve?” Well, Ashlee wears her intention all over her face. There is no subtlety to her acting. If her character Violet is supposed to be angry, Ashlee scowls. If she’s supposed to be mysterious, her eyebrow arches. If she’s supposed to be sad, her bottom lips trembles like a small child’s.

Need proof: Take a look at the picture above from an upcoming episode. You don’t need to have ever seen an episode (that’s my job) to know that Violet is trying to seduce Michael Mancini in this shot. Note the pouty lips and doe eyes she’s wearing like a cheap suit.

I’m hoping that my season finale hypothesis — Violet is the one who killed Sydney and/or will go crazy and kill herself — comes true, because I can’t handle another year of Ashlee’s awful acting. Just send her wherever Amy Locane went.
