Just over a week after Deryck Whibley revealed that he was a drink away from death, the Sum 41 frontman is home from the hospital.
The 34-year-old, who was married to Avril Lavigne from 2006 to 2010,updated fans on his progress over the weekend and thanked them for the support he’s gotten since making his struggles with alcohol public.
“hey everyone, i just wanted to thank you all so much for sending gifts and all of the compassion and support you have shown me. it really means a lot to me in this time of recovery,” the rocker wrote on his personal website.
Whibley also posted a current picture, which, despite his withered figure, still suggests someone who’s on the mend.
On May 16, the musician took to his website to let fans know that he’d spent the previous month in the hospital because of complications due to his hard-partying lifestyle.
“the reason i got so sick is from all the hard boozing I’ve been doing over the years,” he wrote in a post titled “Rock Bottom.” “it finally caught up to me.”
Whibley also included pictures of himself in his hospital bed.
“i finally realized i can’t drink anymore,” he wrote later in the post. “if i have one drink the doc’s say i will die. i’m not preaching or anything but just always drink responsibly. i didn’t, and look where that got me.”
