Prada, ‘Twilight’ filmmakers sue perfume company

The sweet smell of litigation is wafting over the perfume industry.

Preferred Fragrance Inc. — a Brooklyn company that specializes in making designer knock-off scents — is being sued by Prada and Summit Entertainment.

Prada claims Preferred violated its Prada Candy copyright when the company came out with Party Candy perfume. And Summit says Preferred’s Moonlight fragrance is a rip-off of its Twilight trademark.

The Brooklyn-based Preferred, which had some success with an original Jordin Sparks scent, was also sued for infringement 1n 2008 by Estee Lauder Inc.

I’m reminded of what costume jeweler Kenneth Jay Lane said when he was accused of copying the Cartier panther brooch: “Only God can make a panther.”
