Olympic heights for Vanity Fair post-Oscars party

Security was so ultra-tight at last night’s Vanity Fair post-Oscars party at the Sunset Towers Hotel, rumors were buzzing through the celebrity ranks that undercover CIA agents had been placed among the staff.

Earlier in the day, the place had been thoroughly swept by search teams with bomb-sniffing dogs. But neither terrorism fears nor the threat of another downpour in soggy LA put a damper on the festivities, where Olympic gold medal snowboarding champ Shaun White, in skin-tight American flag pants, joined a cavalcade of Hollywood royalty for Graydon Carter‘s annual bash.

The glammest of the post-Oscar parties filled a hotel auditorium decorated with black-and-white photos of movie icons and sprawled onto a wooden dance floor built over the pool, where guests munched on mini burgers and Moet champagne. Kate Beckinsale arrived on the red carpet at the same time as her ex-husband, Michael Sheen. Carey Mulligan squealed when a waiter stepped on her long train. Jamie Foxx chatted with pretty girls and Kid Rock was hanging with the guys.

Besides a host of last night’s winners, the gala also drew Jane Fonda, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, Jodie Foster, Hilary Swank, Vanessa Hudgens, a very pregnant Amy Adams, Serena Williams, Bill Maher, Anderson Cooper, Simon Baker, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz, Kristen Davis, Steve Martin, Thomas Keller, Judd Apatow, Nora Ephron and Nick Pileggi, JJ Abrams and Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, and hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger.

At Elton John‘s AIDS Foundation party at the Pacific Design Center, there was a frosty reception between Victoria Beckham and her arch-rival, British reality star Katie Price. Miley Cyrus got down and dirty at her table while Grace Jones hammed it up on stage. The event also drew Heidi Klum, Hayden Paniettiere and “Glee” stars Lea Michele and Cory Monteith.
