Joan Juliet Buck was a no-show at her own party Saturday. The former editor of French Vogue was hosting a bash at her home before Patti Smith‘s benefit concert for the American Folk Art Museum. Mingling with major donors were Moises de la Renta with model Ulla van Zeller, Betsey Johnson, Jeff Koons with his very pregnant wife Justine, and artist Ryan McGinley. But Buck had left a note: “I am performing ‘La Vie Materielle,’ adapted from Marguerite Duras and directed by Irina Brook . . . We are performing for an audience of producers and backers in Hudson, NY — a last-minute command performance of the sold-out show we did in March at La Mama. This was an unforeseen opportunity for backing and I could not let my ensemble down.”
