Paper magazine won’t take the blame for Drake melee

Don’t blame Paper magazine because its Tuesday night show at the South Street Seaport with hip-hop star Drake and Hanson turned into a mob scene. “We didn’t send out any invites,” editor David Hershkovitz told us. “We announced it to our readers online late last week. Eventually, this info got onto the radio, which brought it to a whole different level and type of audience that didn’t really know anything about Paper.” He added, “This has been characterized as a riot, but to me it was more of a riot averted. If it were a riot, a lot more people would have been injured and a lot more damage would have been done.” More than 10,000 fans showed up, some of whom threw chairs off a balcony and got sprayed with mace by the NYPD. Drake’s rep said not to blame him, either — while he promoted the show at in-store appearances, he didn’t mention it on the radio. “The concert was not part of Drake’s ongoing tour or produced by Drake’s team,” the rep said.
