A terrified Sandra Bullock saved herself from a crazed intruder inside her Los Angeles home by locking herself inside a room until police arrived, sources said Tuesday.
Joshua James Corbett, 39, scaled a fence around Bullock’s West LA house and got inside as she slept at 1 a.m. on Sunday, prosecutors said.
Corbett, who kept a diary on Bullock, somehow got through barbed wire and surveillance cameras that ring the $16 million property, law-enforcement sources told NBC News.
He apparently spent several hours inside, because 911 wasn’t called until 6:30 a.m., officials said.
Cops answered the “hot prowler” call, meaning the suspect was still on the property, police said. And when officers arrived, they found Corbett outside the house but still on the movie star’s property.
Corbett, who lives about 30 miles away in Montrose, was charged with residential burglary, stalking and possession of a machine gun, prosecutors said.
He didn’t have the machine gun when he broke into Bullock’s place, but prosecutors would not reveal where cops found the deadly weapon.
“He was not in possession of it [the machine gun] at the time” when he was arrested, an DA spokeswoman said. “That’s all we can say.”
Law-enforcement sources told TMZ.com that Corbett wasn’t out to burglarize or harm Bullock.
He just wanted a face-to-face meeting with America’s sweetheart, according to TMZ.
The accused stalker was held in lieu of $50,000 bail Tuesday, but prosecutors are asking to increase that amount to $185,000.
If convicted on all charges, Corbett could face up to seven years and four months behind bars.
A defense lawyer for Corbett could not immediately be reached.
Little is known about the suspect, but CNN reported that he is a licensed pilot, according to FAA records.
Hours before the scary break-in, Bullock was honored by Spike TV with its “Decade of Hotness Award” at the Guys Choice Awards.
Bullock joked that Spike TV simply needed a warm body to show up and that the network knows she’ s always available on Saturday nights.
