Angelina Jolie wrote foreword for ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton’s new book

As rumors swirl that Billy Bob Thornton’s new film may be based on his wild romance with ex-wife Angelina Jolie comes news that Jolie has put pen to paper writing about Thornton. A rep for HarperCollins has confirmed to Us Weekly that Jolie wrote the foreword for her ex-husband’s new memoir, “The Billy Bob Tapes: A Cave Full of Ghosts.”

Thornton’s book, which will be on bookstore shelves May 15, promises to spin “colorful tales of [Thornton’s] modest Southern upbringing, his bizarre phobias, his life, his loves (including his heartbreakingly brief marriage to fellow Oscar winner Angelina Jolie), and, of course, his movie career.” The book is formatted as a discussion with Thornton’s close friend, country music star Kinky Friedman.

Thornton and Jolie married in 2000, despite their 20 year age difference, and quickly distinguished themselves as one of the most bizarre couples in Hollywood, known for wearing vials of each other’s blood around their necks.

But while they split in 2003, there appears to be no bad blood between the famous exes.

In 2010, Thornton said of Jolie, “We talk every now and then. She seems to be doing very well directing her own movie, which I am so proud of her for. She’s real smart, and very creative, and I think it’s a great job for her.”

Thornton referred to “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” the Bosnian war love story that Jolie wrote and directed, and which was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

Jolie, of course, was following in her former husband’s footsteps. Thornton wrote, directed and starred in the movie “Sling Blade,” and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his efforts.

Thornton is currently working on a new film project called “And Then We Drove,” which he explained is about “a guy who’s on a road trip and picks up this girl along the way.”

While it was widely reported after an initial press conference for the film that it was based on Thornton’s experience with Jolie, Thornton has refuted those claims.

“It’s a very ethereal story,” he tells New York magazine. “Sort of a landscape kinda movie, and soundscape. But it has nothing do with [Jolie] whatsoever.”
