Chris Hughes, the Facebook co-founder reportedly interested in buying the New Republic, will chair the Paris Review’s Spring Revel gala with his fiancé, Freedom to Marry’s Sean Eldridge. The April 3 event at Cipriani 42nd Street is expected to include comic David Cross and novelists Mona Simpson (sister of Steve Jobs) and Zadie Smith as speakers. The New York Review of Books co-founder Robert B. Silvers will be the guest of honor at the bash marking the Paris Review’s 200th issue. Also, Pulitzer-winning Jeffrey Eugenides — who published one of his earliest stories in the Review and came to a reading at its offices last summer with a black eye after defending the honor of a New Jersey Transit rider — is joining the magazine’s board.
