LOS ANGELES — Actress Sean Young demanded an apology from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Monday following her arrest at the official post-Oscars party for allegedly slapping a security guard.
Young admitted striking the official, but only after he grabbed her — apparently without provocation.
She also criticized an attorney for the Academy who she says witnessed the fracas and urged security to detain her.
“They need to make a public apology on behalf of their security guard,” a defiant Young — who starred in movies including “Blade Runner” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” — told People magazine.
The 52-year-old was placed under citizen’s arrest just before 9:30pm local time Sunday after she slapped a guard who denied her entrance to the Academy’s Governors Ball for not having a ticket.
Los Angeles police officers arrived soon after and took her into custody. She was released just before 3:00am Monday after being booked on misdemeanor battery charges and posting $20,000 in bail, KCBS-TV reported.
Giving her version of events to the media later Monday, Young insisted the Academy was in the wrong.
She said she was at the party’s entrance simply to take pictures with guests for her Facebook page.
“They said, ‘No, you have to leave,'” Young told People. “I started to leave and [the guard] grabbed my arm and he started pulling me. And I turned around and I was pulling my arm away — and I struck him.”
Young said security footage of the incident would exonerate her.
“I was well-behaved,” she said in a further interview with X17 Online. “It was fine … and the surveillance tape will bear that out. … It’s atrocious behavior on the Academy’s part.”
In a statement to People, the Academy denied initiating legal proceedings against Young.
“There was an incident with Ms. Young outside the Academy’s Governors Ball,” the statement said. “It was not the Academy who pressed charges.”
In the hours before her arrest, Young was seen taking pictures with the likes of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock.
The divorced mother of two attempted to crash Vanity Fair’s Oscars party in 2006 and entered treatment for alcoholism following her removal from the 2008 Directors Guild of America awards for heckling.
