Composer Philip Glass celebrated his 75th birthday with music and arts royalty at Le Poisson Rouge on Sunday. He was treated to an evening of performances by the Kronos Quartet, Philip’s cousin Ira Glass and son Zack Glass, as well as conductor and pianist Dennis Russell Davies and violinist Tim Fain. The guest list included Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, Tom Waits, Martin Scorsese, artist Richard Serra, Ravi Shankar, Patti Smith, Michael Stipe, director Errol Morris and the Met Opera’s Peter Gelb. Glass was presented with a cake, artfully covered in sheet music and pencils, created by TLC’s “Cake Boss.”
