Harpist understudy making sweet music for Tony nominee

We’ve told you about the VIP “Rainbow Room” lounge backstage at Broadway’s “End of the Rainbow.” Turns out it’s not the only behind-the-scenes entertainment at the Belasco Theatre. Erik Heger, an understudy in the show, soundproofed his dressing room so he can play the harp for the cast and crew. “[Tony nominee] Tracie Bennett loves listening to Erik play and jokingly suggested he join the orchestra,” a source said. Heger hasn’t shared the stage with Bennett yet, but in the meantime he’ll be plucking away in the wings. He also plays subway gigs as a member of Music Under New York. Meanwhile, “Rainbow” producer Joey Parnes responded to an audience member who, as Page Six previously reported, demanded her money back, claiming Bennett was “lip-synching the singing” in the Judy Garland play. “[She] has never lip-synched a show in her life,” reads Parnes’ response. “Simply put, [she] is singing with her own voice. You are not the first person to wonder if [she] is singing live . . . We would like to invite you and a guest to join us again . . . unencumbered by the concern that she may not be singing live.”
