Oscar-nominated Bruce Dern ‘still waiting’ for his next role

Bruce Dern was nominated for an Oscar on Thursday, but the star of “Nebraska” told us he’s “still waiting” to be cast in a new film.

Despite Dern’s breakout role in Alexander Payne’s movie, which was also nominated for Best Picture, he doesn’t have another job lined up.

“I’m still waiting for the phone to ring,” he quipped to us at the Chateau Marmont.

The star, 77, further recalled that his first-ever Globes nomination came in 1975 for “The Great Gatsby,” and Hollywood p.r. maven Stan Rosenfield called Dern in New York while he starred in a Broadway show, “Strangers,” to tell him he’d gotten the nomination.

He lost to Fred Astaire and had to quickly get back to his play.

At the Globes, Dern lost to Leonardo DiCaprio. But now that Oscar nominations have come out, his phone may start ringing.
