Billionaire Leonard Lauder is a single man again. Sources exclusively tell Page Six that the chairman emeritus of Estée Lauder has called off his engagement to Linda E. Johnson, the head of the Brooklyn Public Library. The move comes after Lauder, 80, and Johnson, 55, postponed their wedding in August, days before they planned to marry in front of an intimate group of family and friends in Philadelphia. Despite their decision not to wed, Lauder, worth an estimated $8 billion, and Johnson remained together and went on what would have been their honeymoon to Sardinia. But yesterday the couple, who met following the death of Leonard’s beloved wife Evelyn, sent an e-mail to friends cancelling their holiday party. It reads, “We are afraid that we must cancel Sunday’s holiday party. Sadly, we have made the difficult but mutual decision to go our separate ways. We will remain friends and certainly cherish the time we spent together. We are so very sorry for the inconvenience and send you our warmest wishes . . . Best, Linda and Leonard.”
