Shoe king Stuart Weitzman has given his Million Dollar shoe the boot for the Oscars in March. The designer cited the recession, telling us, “There will be no Million Dollar shoe for the Oscars this year. With so many people struggling financially, and unemployment at 10 percent, I don’t think it is appropriate. The actresses still want to go for glamour, but this year it will be more understated.” Weitzman created a sensation when “Mullholland Drive” star Laura Harring wore his jeweled shoe at the 2002 Oscars, and he’s since created custom shoes for many famous ladies. Even Queen Elizabeth once asked about them. “I was at Ascot with a model wearing the Million Dollar shoe,” Weitzman recalled. “Her Majesty came up asked me: ‘I hear they cost a lot of money?’ I replied: ‘Yes, but surely not as much as some of your crown jewels.’ She just smiled and walked away.”
