A holiday hoax followed in the high-heeled footsteps of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade controversy over Broadway’s “Kinky Boots.” The show’s Harvey Fierstein received what appeared to be a Macy’s follow-up: an ad saying the store’s Chicago location will put Santa in a pair of stiletto boots inspired by the show. “Join Macy’s as we take a high-heeled stand for tolerance and acceptance,” said the ad under Macy’s tagline, “Believe.” “Bring your whole family to see Santa wearing a glittery addition to his traditional outfit.” After Fierstein posted the image, a Broadway news site published a story. But it was taken down when it was exposed as a hoax. “It turns out the event is a fake! What kind of Grinch would do that?” Fierstein said. He added the image of Santa in heels was so good, he may use it for a holiday card.
