Wardrobe malfunctions are bound to happen when dressing for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards. A Nicole Miller dress worn by Jennifer Tilly to the 2012 awards Monday night went up in smoke during production. Miller designed a black dress with a layered skirt for Tilly to wear to the ceremony at Lincoln Center. “The fabric had to be laser-cut, and it caught fire when they were laser-cutting it, so then I had to make her a new skirt,” Miller told us later. A playful Tilly added, “My design was trouble.” Model Doutzen Kroes almost missed the event because her Sophie Theallet dress was lost by messengers and didn’t reach her door until after 7 p.m. By then, Prabal Gurung, Zoe Saldana, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Heather Graham, Lauren Hutton, Dakota Fanning, Busy Philipps, Diane von Furstenberg, Julianne Hough and Solange had already graced the red carpet. Host Seth Myers cracked about John Galliano, “You could even say that fashion and comedy go together like bar mitzvahs and Galliano . . . That joke went so badly I’m going to get fired from Dior.” But the crowd roared when he walked out wearing Marc Jacobs’ lace dress and white boxers the designer wore to the Met Ball. Those still teetering in their stilettos headed to Top of the Standard for the Swarovski after-party, including Kate Bosworth, Lily Collins, Jessica Pare, Rachel
Zoe, Brad Goreski, Erin Fetherston and Gabe Saporta.
