Steven Meisel’s new muse is a woman who used to be a man.
Transgender burlesque dancer Carmen Carrera was photographed by Meisel for an elegant spread for September’s W magazine, and the two will be celebrated at a party Thursday at Chelsea hot spot No. 8 thrown by the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Stefano Tonchi and fashion and style director Edward Enninful.
We hear Carrera, who appeared on “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” will give a special performance at the event.
Carrera wrote a personal essay about her journey and discovery through dance in the issue, saying: “Being onstage gave me an escape: I could be feminine, which is what I was on the inside.”
