Catherine Zeta-Jones is ‘fragile’ after split from Michael Douglas

Catherine Zeta-Jones’ maid of honor at her wedding to Michael Douglas says her friend’s health is “fragile” in the wake of the couple’s split.

Anna Walker, a UK TV host, told The Daily Mail, “The next few weeks will be very tough and I’m very worried about her. This is a very traumatic time and her mental health could be adversely affected.”

Zeta-Jones has been open about her battle with bipolar disorder, and was public about being back in treatment in April, just before she and Douglas separated.

“She’s just had another round of treatment for her bipolar and if she can keep that in check under all this stress it will be a miracle,” said Walker.

“Her mother Pat is with her at the moment, so I know she’s in good hands. And nowadays there is very good medication that can help.”

Douglas and Zeta-Jones have reportedly been living apart for several months, but no decision has been made about a possible divorce. In confirming the split, a rep for Douglas said, “Michael and Catherine are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”

Over the weekend, Douglas was seen at the Venice Film Festival wearing his wedding ring.

Walker says that the separation has hit Zeta-Jones hard.

“Catherine is very old-fashioned and never wanted to ever go through a divorce,” says Walker. “Her parents have been together for more than 50 years and are her role models. She wanted her marriage to be like theirs.”
