Liza Minnelli was a showbiz trouper Monday when she performed with a broken wrist at an Actors Fund benefit for breast cancer.
Liza appeared with half-sister Lorna Luft at Birdland, even though she’d fractured her wrist in three places in a fall at home a day earlier.
We hear that doctors told the “Cabaret” star she’d have to miss the event, but she ignored their orders and went on with the show, which reunited Minnelli and Luft onstage for the first time since 1993. After the show, she headed to the hospital for surgery.
A source said Minnelli’s close friend, composer Michael Feinstein, and his husband, Terrence Flannery, weren’t originally scheduled to attend but, “They were sure to be there when they found out their good friend had broken her wrist. Michael was backstage when Liza arrived and rehearsed with her before she went on with Lorna, who hosted the event.”
Luft disclosed that she had breast cancer earlier this year, but, “She told everybody backstage that she is doing great.”
Minnelli will also play Foxwoods Resort Casino on Nov. 8.
