David Arquette celebrates a year of sobriety

LOS ANGELES — David Arquette celebrated one year of sobriety Friday, a major milestone as he recovers from his meltdown in the aftermath of his split from wife Courteney Cox.

“Today marks 1 year of sobriety for me. I thank God for the strength and guidance and my family and friends for their love and support,” the 40-year-old actor tweeted.

After Arquette and his wife of 11 years split up in October 2010, the actor began a downward spiral filled with hard partying and wild dating.

His out-of-control nightlife later raised worries after he joked he was having a nervous breakdown during a fall appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show.

He checked into rehab in January after his family voiced their concern and he kept a low profile after his treatment.

Arquette and Cox, who have a seven-year-old daughter Coco, have remained amicable during their separation, though Arquette has moved on and is now dating “Entertainment Tonight” reporter Christina McLarty.

He also found fame on the dance floor as part of the fall-season cast of “Dancing with the Stars.”

His former cast mates offered their own words of encouragement Friday on his road to recovery.

Ricki Lake tweeted, “Congratulations David!” and Chaz Bono wrote, “So proud of you man. The first year is such a huge accomplishment, savor it. I’m sending out big love to you pal.”
