Katy Perry leans on Rihanna during split

While Katy Perry may have appeared in a “good mood” partying in West Hollywood on New Year’s Eve, the “Last Friday Night” singer is reportedly having a tough time coping with her impending divorce from Russell Brand. Sources say that she is leaning heavily on close friend Rihanna.

“Katy is hardly speaking to anyone right now, but she called Rihanna as soon as she heard Russell was filing for divorce,” a source close to the singer tells The Sun. “When Katy told her the news, she suggested flying down to Barbados to stay with her and her family.” Rihanna has since flown to Miami, and spent New Year’s Eve at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ mansion on Star Island.

RUSSELL BRAND FILES FOR DIVORCE FROM KATY PERRY

BRAND DISAPPROVES OF PERRY’S PARTYING WAYS

The source says that Rihanna, who planned Perry’s bachelorette party before her wedding to Brand in October of 2010, has been a shoulder to cry on for the pink-haired “Teenage Dream” singer.

“Katy was embarrassed about calling her parents as they’d been so against Russell in the first place, but Rihanna was a great support for her and she really helped to calm her down,” the source says.

Meanwhile, another source tells The Mirror that Rihanna is whisking her pal away to Mexico for recuperation time.

“Rihanna has been there for Katy, texting her from Miami where she’s on holiday,” the source says. “Now they are planning a girly getaway so Katy can clear her head.”

Brand filed for divorce from Perry on Dec. 30, after just 14 months of marriage.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” Brand said in a statement. “I’ll always adore her, and I know we’ll remain friends.”

The move hardly came as a surprise, as the couple had spent the holidays more than 7,000 miles apart — Perry in Hawaii with friends while Brand was in Cornwall, England, with family. Both stars were spotted without their wedding rings in the days leading up to their split.

Ironically, Perry’s friendship with Rihanna has been noted as one of the potential reasons for strife between the eccentric couple. A source told the Daily Mail that Brand, a recovering heroin and sex addict, felt that the Barbadian singer was a bad influence on his wife and encouraged her hard-partying ways.

Other sources have said that it was Brand’s desire to have children soon, while Perry wanted to wait until a more opportune time in her career, that led to the couple’s unraveling.

Because Brand and Perry did not have a prenuptial agreement, Brand could allegedly stand to gain up to $20 million in the split.
