Robin Roberts to return to ‘GMA’

Robin Roberts is back. The “Good Morning America” host announced her return to the show today, after leaving just over four months ago to undergo treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes, or M.D.S., a rare blood and bone marrow disorder.

As Roberts is still on the mend, and highly susceptible to infection, she’s planning to spend the next week or two doing a “dry run,” coming in to the studio each morning but not hosting, to see if her body can handle the transition.

“My doctors want me to see how many people I actually come into contact with,” she explained.

But as far as her co-stars are concerned, she’s already made a noticeable recovery. “What is striking today is how healthy and vibrant she looks,” Sam Champion, the G.M.A. weatherman marveled.

Though there’s no date set in stone, Roberts reportedly told colleagues she’s aiming for February 26: one year to the day after she first noticed the exhaustion that would turn out to be the symptoms of M.D.S.

And whenever she returns, her co-hosts will welcome her with open arms. Tom Cibrowski, the senior executive producer of the show said, “The greatest day in G.M.A. history will be the day Robin returns to G.M.A.”
