James Franco’s sexuality, his intellectual squint, and his lackluster Oscar job were easy targets at his Comedy Central Roast Sunday night. Referring to Franco’s seemingly stoned 2012 Academy Awards stint, roastmaster Seth Rogen said, “Look at you sitting there while I’m doing all the talking. I feel like I’m co-hosting the Oscars with you.” Bill Hader added, “You did the impossible. You made me like Anne Hathaway.” Noting that Franco has an MFA in writing at Columbia and was working on a Ph.D. at Yale, Jeff Ross said, “I didn’t know Ph.D. stood for pretentious, hipster, douchebag.” And about Franco’s sexuality, Rogen cracked, “He’s hard to pin down, though I’ve heard many guys have done it.” Rogen also attacked some of his fellow roasters. Noting that Jonah Hill co-stars with Leonardo DiCaprio in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” Rogen said, “How he got that part, I don’t know. But he might be the only person who can tell us if Martin Scorsese’s pubes are as crazy as his eyebrows.” Aziz Ansari, Natasha Leggero and the brilliant Andy Samberg piled on to the delight of Franco’s mother, brother, and 91-year-old grandmother, plus nightlife impresario Jeff Beacher, Kate Walsh, Matthew Morrison, Busy Philipps and Amy Poehler. But thick-skinned Franco remained, as he said, unscathed. The Franco roast will air Monday.
