Georgina Bloomberg highlights NYC pooches in new book

“We New Yorkers are a tough group. We put up with being called rude, egotistical, pushy, arrogant and loud.”

That’s the start of the forceful foreword written by Georgina Bloomberg for “New York Dog,” a coffee-table book by photographer Rachael Hale McKenna.

The daughter of the former mayor has five dogs she rescued from pounds — Chopper, Hugo, Mabel, Mona and Stella — and a pot-bellied pig named Wilbur.

The book also features artist William Wegman and his four Weimaraners, fashion photographer Albert Watson and his wire fox terrier, and publicist R. Couri Hay and his two Cavalier King Charles spaniels.

“The thrill of pushing limits and breaking the rules is in our blood,” writes the equestrienne, perhaps thinking of smoking cigarettes or drinking oversized sodas. “But we New Yorkers have a secret that we don’t want the rest of the world knowing . . . We love our dogs.”

The Humane Society of NY is launching the tome with a party April 9 at Bamboo 52, which food and wine impresario Herb Karlitz is sponsoring. The guest list includes dog lovers too numerous to mention.
