Camilla Parker Bowles’ brother suffers serious head injury after night out in NYC

Camilla Parker Bowles’ brother Mark Shand has suffered a serious head injury after falling following a night out in New York.

Shand, 63, a British travel writer and conservationist, fell after attending an event at Sotheby’s to celebrate the Faberge Big Egg Hunt. Sources say he attended an after-party at The Diamond Horseshoe, and fell after leaving the venue.

Clarence House – the home of Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles — said in a statement, “The Duchess of Cornwall’s brother, Mark Shand, has been taken to a New York hospital after falling and sustaining a serious head injury. The Duchess, her family and The Prince of Wales are clearly deeply concerned and are being kept closely informed.”

Shand had earlier on Tuesday night attended an auction at Sotheby’s which raised $1.6 million for charity. Guests included Agnes Gund, Alexander Gilkes, Diane von Furstenberg , Elizabeth Kurpis, Hayley Bloomingdale, Britain’s Princess Eugenie, Lee Radziwill and Princess Ira Von Furstenberg.

Sources said that Shand was in good spirits at the auction and then attended after-party at the Diamond Horseshoe at the Paramount Hotel on W46th Street. “He stayed till the very end,” said a guest, who added that Shand went onto a downtown bar with friends and fell afterwards on the street.

One source told us Shand had been drinking, and “had his hands in his pockets when he left the bar and fell on the sidewalk, hitting his head.”

Another source added, “Mark had been taking blood pressure medication and had experienced some dizzy spells.”

An egg Shand commissioned for the event was of Humpty Dumpty, and was created by The Prince’s Drawing School and signed by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. The work was called, “The Royal Egg – Humpty Dumpty, 2014.”
