5 times Cate Blanchett has been awesome this awards season

On Tuesday, America can finally welcome Cate Blanchett’s dramatic performance in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” into its homes with the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release. Critics and pundits agree that the actress’ turn as a WASP-y Ruth Madoff-type is virtually guaranteed to land her an Oscar come March 2.

That’s all well and good, but Blanchett’s work we’re most excited about right now is her trek through the awards season campaign trail. Here are our top five favorite moments so far.

  1. 1. She made fun of Matthew McConaughey.

At the SAG Awards, Matthew McConaughey gave a bizarre acceptance speech in which he described acting as thus: “It feels like they could put a blindfold on you and put you on a spaceship and take you to Neptune and you could hop off on the planet and they better have the sprock control and you get off that spaceship because you are going to behave as your man.”

When Blanchett took to the stage to accept her award next and got a “hurry up” message on the teleprompter, she came back with the ultimate takedown:

  2. 2. She also molested her SAG statue.

Sometimes the best way to express gratitude is with a gentle stroke.

  3. 3. At the Golden Globes, she admitted a penchant for vodka consumption.

So much so, it got the first shout out in her acceptance speech.

  4. 4. Backstage at the Globes, she broke the awkward press room tension.

Everyone loves a good “What am I doing here?” moment.

  5. 5. And at the Critics’ Choice Awards, she launched her son’s magic career.

    Watch your back, David Blaine.
