The horsey set in Palm Beach is reeling after the death of two prominent riders in the space of four weeks.
Polo player Carlos Gracida, 53 — a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II who coached Princes William and Harry — died last Tuesday after being thrown and then run over by his own pony.
And Anne Heyman, 52 — a former Manhattan assistant district attorney who founded a village for orphans of the 1994 Rwandan genocide — died Jan. 31 of a head injury after being thrown during a jumping competition.
“People forget how dangerous riding is,” said one equestrian. “With horses, the accident ratio is 100 percent. It’s not if you are going to fall — it’s when. Everyone gets thrown eventually. It’s part of the sport.”
