Coco Rocha on plus-sized models: It’s about time

Coco Rocha approves of measures being made to diversify on runways this season.

The Canadian model, who has appeared in ads and walked runways for brands including Banana Republic, Zac Posen, Calvin Klein and Jean Paul Gaultier, says the move to promote plus-size models to Fashion Week was a strong start, but argues against using labels: “I don’t like that fact that we’re saying they’re ‘plus-size.’ I think models are models,” she told us backstage at the Herve Leger presentation on Saturday.

Models, she argues, “are supposed to be a muse to you. Why is a muse always the same body type, the same look? It’s boring. It’s about time we’re mixing it up.”

Rocha sat front-row with her husband, James Conran, Jamie Chung, James Metcalfe, Petra Nemcova, “Blue Bloods” actress Sami Gayle and “Vampire Academy” star Zoey Deutch.
