Kelly Preston believes ‘chemicals in food’ caused son Jett’s autism

Kelly Preston has opened up about her son Jett’s tragic death for the first time.

Jett Travolta died in 2009 after suffering a seizure and hitting his head on a bathtub at the family’s vacation home at Grand Bahama Island.

Jett suffered from autism, which Preston attributes to a series of contributing factors, including Kawasaki syndrome when he was young, as well as her “hard and fast labor” and Jett’s thrush infection caused by her use of antibiotics while breastfeeding.

“[Jett] was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki Syndrome,” she says on the Nov. 21 episode of the medical talk show “The Doctors” via People. “I strongly believe as a mother, as does my husband, that there are certain contributing factors that lead to autism and some of it is very much the chemicals in our environment and in our food.”

The actress hopes to provide information about an organic lifestyle to help other parents.

“He was coming out of the autism, he really was,” she said.

Since Jett’s passing, Preston and husband John Travolta – who are also parents to Ella, 12 – have welcomed another child, Benjamin.
