Knicks star Tyson Chandler and a number of other athletes are helping Hurricane Sandy victims by setting up registries on diapers.com, where purchased items go to each player’s designated area of need. Chandler and his wife, Kimberly, started a Rebound for Rockaway/Rebound for New York campaign to collect items and raise funds, which they delivered with a group of volunteers. Fellow Knick Jason Kidd and his foundation have set up a registry for one specific family, as has the Yankees’ Joba Chamberlain. Chamberlain is dedicating his efforts to a Long Island family who lost their home and whose 7-year-old son suffers from acute lymphocytic leukemia. Brooklyn Nets C.J. Watson, Jerry Stackhouse and Tyshawn Taylor are also participating, with Taylor reaching out to his roots and giving back to the Hoboken Housing Projects, where he grew up. Also taking part: Charlotte Bobcat Kemba Walker, Boston Celtic Paul Pierce and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love.
